Dark Shadows Movie to Begin Filming in April

After a number of false starts, Deadline Hollywood reports that the new Dark Shadows feature film is finally due to go before the cameras in April 2011, with Tim Burton confirmed to direct. Johnny Depp will play Barnabas Collins, with a script by Seth Grahame-Smith.

We'll continue to report on the development of the project in the coming months, but suffice to say, it looks like Dark Shadows will be celebrating its 45th anniversary in grand style.

I predict this will put DS on a level playing field with Star Trek, as it always should have been.

Awesome! Can't wait to see who else will star. Since Tim Burton uses alot of actors over and over, I hope we get cameos from Christopher Lee and Martin Landau. Could see either one as Barnabas' father.

Anything that keeps the legacy alive is great! Anyone remember the 1991 DS series starring Ben Cross as Barnabas Collins? I really liked the way they revived DS but the network execs pulled it. Can't wait for this movie to come out. I wonder who will play Angelique.

Someone in an earlier post suggested Charlize Theron.

Not bad at all.

Of course, we don't if Angelique will be in the movie. This could end up more along the lines of House of Dark Shadows.

But I agree the real story is back in 1798 or whatever year it was. But they might have to save that for a prequel.

Yet another arrival of the Cousin from England at Collinwood. Johnathan Frid 'arrived' least a half a dozen times in the show, once in the movie House of Dark Shadows and Ben Cross 'arrived' in the Revival series. And now Johnny Depp gets to arrive at the doors of Collinwood, wolfs-head cane and all, as the Couzin from England! I just LOVE IT!

Earlier in another post, I suggested Meryl Streep as Julia Hoffman and Charlize Theron as Angelique. Here's another idea, how about Rachel McAdams, Summer Glau or Emily Blunt as Josette/Maggie, Helen Mirren or Susan Sarandon as Elizabeth, and Hugh Jackman as Quentin?

I can't really see Meryl as Julia. Who was the gypsy that Grayson played? I highly doubt there will be any gypsies in this movie but I couldn't see Meryl in that role and I'd like to see it work on that level.

Actually, Susan Sarandan might work better as Julia.

I really don't know Rachel McAdams that well. I've watched everything Summer Glau was in, Firefly, Dollhouse, 4400, but I remember her most from Terminator: Sarah Conner. She didn't get to show much range as Cameron. Emily Blunt, I don't know her, haven't seen anything she's been in.

It'll be hard to cast someone with the charm of the small town mod girl Maggie Evans, and the old world class of Josette De Pres.

Let's definitely save Quentin for a sequel, don't you think?

Just saw this article on wikipedia saying that Sigourney Weaver was confirmed as Julia, Charlize Theron was confirmed as Angelique, Keira Knightley was confirmed as Maggie/Josette, and Christina Ricci was confirmed as Vicky. I know that Wikipedia is user-based and I doubt the authenticity. Sometime tell me if there's any truth in it, or if its just hooey, cause Dark Shadows is on none of those actresses IMDb page. Though I like the ideas of Weaver and Theron.

No casting other than Johnny Depp has been announced or confirmed as of yet. With the movie starting production in less than six months, I'm sure will be hearing more news soon.

As it's a Tim Burton film, I'll bet Helena Bonham-Carter is a shoe-in for Julia Hoffman.

I hope Helena Bonham Carter doesn't play Julia. It'd basically be Todd and Lovett all over again. The dynamics have to be new and fresh. I think Depp and Sigourney Weaver would have a great chemistry together as Barnabas and Julia.

I am so looking forward to seeing the Dark Shadows movie. I will bring the pop corn, that is covered in red butter. LOL

No, no, please, no Helena Bonham-Carter! Same for Keira Knightley.

Sigourney Weaver as Julia is an interesting choice but I can't see any chemistry between her and Johnny Depp and I think that would be important to the movie.
